Kmart has officially lost 2 more customers pertaining to an issue of false advertisement. I went to the Ft Oglethorpe, GA store this evening to purchase 2 pairs of boots, each per the ad were $19.99. Kmart’s signage reads ALL FOOTWEAR but 1 pair, get the 2nd 50%. That’s is not the case when you attempt to make a purchase. Not only did 1 pair ring up at the full price; the 2nd pair did not ring up at 50% off.

When calling the Kmart Corporate office, the National Retail Customer Relations person, Christina, called me ignorant.

Please help! I am still new at all of this. I did go to my Kmart and got some of the deals listed above.

I remember awhile back they did this “double coupon” deal on just health and beauty. What area of the store is this doubling on? I tried to call my local KMart and was basically told that they do not know and they would just try to ring up the coupons i brought in and tell me if it worked or not – REALLY!!????? YOu have got to be kidding me right!

Lisa – if you click on the link in the post it will bring up any stores that are participating. However – many are also not listed that are participating, so you should call your local Kmart to ask. Of course, they might not know either :)

Where do you live – maybe another reader can help with this one?

A new update from the field:

Yesterday I went to the Highway 58 Kmart. It turns out that Brittany, as nice as she was, was mistaken in who the DM is. The real DM, John, was at the Customer Service desk when I walked in. He had been on vacation and was unaware of the double coupons. He called someone to check, and then assured me it was being honored. It was not, however, automatic–it requires a manual override. He told me to pick out my things and come back to the customer service desk, rather than a regular check-out line. He was very, very nice. It was the first time I didn’t feel patronized or that I was being told just what I wanted to hear. He said that the double coupons are a “loss leader” for Kmart but that it doesn’t pay off in the increased business that would offset that. He did acknowledge that it’s probably because it’s so disorganized and poorly advertised that no gains are made.

I got some awesome deals! I found 2 Old Spice deodorants on clearance for $1.20 each and used a $1/2 to make them .20 each. I also found a Ban deodorant on clearance for .90 and used a .75/1 (not doubled) to get that for .15. I got Post-Its for free, Glade Relaxing Moments spray for .99, a 32 oz. Softsoap refill for $2.49, and something else that escapes my frazzled brain at the moment. But the bottom line is I saved $10.75 with coupons and paid less than $5, including tax.

Kmart has a promotion on right now, buy 1 Tide, 1 Hanes underwear, and 1 of your choice Downy, Bounce, or Hanes and get a $5 Q. There is also a MIR right now, buy 3 Hanes–$5 Kmart Gift Card, buy 5–$10 Gift Card. So what I plan to do today is buy 1 Tide, use $1/1 and 2 Hanes, use $1/2. With the $5 Q, I can buy 4 more Hanes, use (2) $1/2 and the $5 Q. I’m getting undershirts for my boyfriend, and I think they’re on sale for $8/pack. After the $10 MIR gift card, that will make them $25 for 6 packages, with 5 to a package.

We go camping a lot, and I also scored a Coleman propane camp heater on clearance for $22. My boyfriend said they are usually $50-60, so we were excited about that.

      Report from the field:

Since no TN stores were listed on the spreadsheet, yesterday I contacted K-Mart Shop Your Way Rewards. The very nice customer service rep (CSR) Brittany told me that it was essentially up to the district manager (DM) whether or not stores participate. She gave me the name and number of the DM for my area. I contacted DM Jason Ring. He assured me that, although the local stores weren’t on the list, they WERE participating. I then went to “my” K-Mart. I spoke to the manager on duty, since I saw no signs about the promotion. He said he knew nothing about it, checked with a floor supervisor, who also knew nothing. I gave him the name and number of the DM with whom I had spoken. He called, and was told that “it should automatically double at the register when they scan their rewards card.” I shopped, went to the register, scanned my rewards card. Guess what? No doubles!! I left my items and walked out. I was fed up!

So TODAY I called the 800 number (1-866-KMART4U) and spoke to CSR Elaine. She was very nice, but seemed to be speaking from a script. (“I’m so sorry. I’m documenting your feedback. It will be passed along. I can’t answer that. Your business is important to us.”) She did promise me a $10/$50 store Q for my inconvenience. Stay tuned, I’ll let you know if I actually get it! (K-Mart has a really bad customer service (lack thereof) reputation online.) She also said there were 11 TN stores on the list, just none in my area. Don’t ask me why, but I am planning to try the K-Mart that the DM is based in, to see what happens there.

Oh, I almost forgot–my cashier told me that they had Super Doubles LAST week. “Really?” I asked. “I didn’t hear anything about it.” “There were signs on the doors,” she assured me. I checked my receipts, folks. I had them handy because I filed MIRs on my last 2 Kmart purchases–one on 7/30 and the other on 8/4! I used coupons on both purchases, and they did NOT double, and there were NO signs on the door, either. And I know I used my Rewards card, because one purchase involved a KMart rebate restricted to SYW members, and the other I used my points on my purchase!

I have to say, I spent 13 years in retail; counting mergers and acquisitions, I worked for at least 5 different companies. I have never, ever seen such disorganization when it comes to promotions and advertising, and I have NEVER heard of a DM having the authority to override a corporate promotion! (Except for franchises–the rules are totally different there.) Most companies advertise the heck out of promotions and sales, because that is what draws people in.
