DIY: How to Plant a Succulent Garden Video Tutorial

how to plant a succulent garden /

Jamie here! Kasey did this great little tutorial below a couple years back for how to plant a succulent garden – and I totally had to go watch it this week since I decided I wanted to decorate with succulents this Spring.  She gives some great tips – looks like I need to go out and get the right pot fillers before I transplant my little guys to a bigger container :)

Recently, I partnered with Home Depot to co-host a Pinterest Inspired Do-It-Herself Workshop all about Succulent Container Gardens. The big event was last Thursday, we had a crowd y’all, it was so much fun. Thanks to everyone that came out, it was so great to meet you in person. Although I have always loved vegetable gardening this was my first Succulent Garden lesson.

Basically, Succulents are very hardy plants that require very little upkeep and minimal watering. Yes, my kind of plant! There are many different varieties with the most popular being cacti and aloe plants. During the workshop we learned step-by-step how to plant a Succulent Garden I couldn’t wait to plant my own.

Here are just a couple of pics from the Do-It-Herself Workshop.

Home Depot even gave away a gas grill and the containers we made during the workshop!  The store manager presented me with a hand painted Home Depot apron.  It was such a kind gesture, and the apron was painted beautifully.

My kids had baseball and softball games all weekend, so we didn’t make it to Home Depot to pick up our supplies until Sunday afternoon. It was raining like crazy, and I don’t mean just a little bit.  There were flood watches everywhere, first time I’ve ever picked out planters in the garden department under an umbrella.  Otherwise, I was planning on filming what I was buying but we were a wet mess.

The kids helped me pick out their favorite Succulents, after looking at every single plant several times over (no exaggeration y’all it took forever). Love these sweet little hands.  If it would have been up to them, we would have bought every single one!

Succulent Supplies

Below I have included a list of supplies you’ll need to create a Succulent Garden.  We bought a beautiful large blue planter to use as a centerpiece on the table on our screened in porch.  Then, a smaller planter for the kids bathroom.

I would use it to buy the stuff to make a raised garden bed. Otherwise my husband will mow over anything he can get to in the yard.

I love the look of succulents, although I’m not a fan of cacti. I would like to make a dish garden variety with various colors and textures.

I would create a succulent garden that is colorful yet drought tolerant because I have a bad habit if forgetting to water my plants.

I made a few succulent gardens last week but I am amazed at the selection of succulents in the photos you posted that are available at Home Depot. I am definitely going there today ! I bought the ones I used at Lowes and the selection was poor. Thanks for the Blog Post and Contest.
