Courageous: A new movie worth seeing!

.

Reader Christie asked that we share this new movie with all of you – and we were happy to oblige!  It looks great:

My name is Christie Wade and my husband Brent and I have been living in Ooltewah  for over 24 years and attend Ooltewah UM Church.   We’re hoping you will help get the word out about the movie COURAGEOUS, which opens Sept 30th .

We, my husband & myself, have special interests in this movie.

  • First, it is a Christian movie and supports the role of fathers.
  • Secondly, our daughter is in the movie. (She plays Victoria, policeman’s wife)  Renee Jewell, our daughter, is now living in Albany, GA and goes to Sherwood Baptist Church.  This movie is the fourth movie for this church. Fly Wheel — Facing the Giants –  Fireproof. We hope everyone will attend and support Christian movies to show Hollywood we want more.

This is a quote from the web site:  courageousthemovie.com

“Four men one calling. To serve and protect.  When tragedy strikes home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, fears, and their fathering.
Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to GOD and to their families.”

Also, Casting Crowns’ has a new song  Courageous for the movie.

Has anyone seen the movie yet?  Let us know how it is – we’re looking forward to seeing it as well!

Cheap Weekly Donation Ideas: The Drop-Off Dilema

Written by: Time2Give Team Member, Heidi

If you’re like me collecting donation items is the easy part – getting them to their destination is the hard part.  A few weeks ago I saw a donation box for the local food bank in the mall.  The next week I pushed the double stroller and my husband carried two boxes of food into the mall only to discover the donation box was gone.  So I’ve had a growing pile of food and toiletries accumulating in my laundry room.  It’s easy to pick up a few extra items to donate when we’re out shopping.  It really doesn’t take much extra effort or much money at all.  In fact, with this weekly list of items that are only $.25 or less, we could easily donate 20 items or more each week and only spend $5!  The problem is that the items don’t do anyone any good if we don’t get them from our house to the donation site.

Usually in November and December there are donation spots set up in malls and grocery stores – places we all visit frequently – so it makes it very easy to drop them off.  But the rest of the year it’s not as easy – especially if you have small children that you have to take with you (imagine pushing a double stroller and carrying 2 boxes of food by yourself!).  I am interested in hearing ideas to make this easier.  One thing I thought of was gathering donation items with a group of friends.  Once a month or so, all of you get together with your donation items and put them together in a big pile.  Take turns being the designated “drop off” person to the charity of your choice.  That way each person only has to worry about the “drop off” part every few months.  As an added bonus, not only do you have an excuse to get together more often, but you can each encourage each other to donate – we all know it’s easier to be consistent with something if we’re not doing it alone!

As this year is drawing to a close and the new year is almost upon us, let’s make this one of our New Year’s Resolutions!  The world will be a better place because of our actions!

*New Feature* Couponing at 18: Elizabeth’s Journey

Here’s a different take on couponing that you don’t hear about often!

We’d like to introduce you to a new regular feature you’ll be seeing on Time2Save. I want to let our guest do most of the talking – so I won’t say much, save that we met her just recently and she is such a sweet blessing of a young woman we asked her to share with you. We’d like to bring her into your lives in a small way each week – as she takes us on a journey with her.

Hey everyone, my name is Elizabeth and I am so excited to be able to share with you.

I am eighteen years old, a full time college student, and I work.   However, family comes first for me. This is why I decided to find a way to help my parents out. Like almost everyone my parents are struggling financially and every little bit helps. I learned about a coupon seminar from my sister-in-law and I thought this would be a great way to help out.

I arrived at the coupon seminar very excited, because I knew this would be an amazing chance to help my parents save money. I learned that it is possible to save hundreds of dollars monthly by using coupons. Which to me is so amazing!!! Okay, I’m off to try what I have learned so far. Wish me luck!  Thank you for reading my blog, and I will keep you posted on my journey through the couponing world.

Your thrifty friend,

Elizabeth

Simplify Sundays: Create in Me a Clean Heart, Oh God (I’m grody!)

.Debby McCuiston, the “Queen of Clutter-Free”, does a segment for us each Sunday on simplifying our lives, getting rid of “clutter”, and focusing on what’s important.  We look forward to her words of wisdom each week & hope you enjoy it too!  Take it away Debby….

Our beloved “Simplify Sundays” author, Debbie, is feeling under the weather this weekend, and asked if I could substitute a previous article for this week.  I just couldn’t decide which one was best – so I’d like to recommend all of them!  Just type “Simplify Sunday” in the search bar at right – and you will find many articles from the last year’s worth of Simplify Sundays!

I would however like to start your de-cluttering mission with a verse.  I heard it at church this weekend – along with the story of the Prodigal Son, and it was just what I needed to hear.  I hope one of you needs it this morning too.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me

- Psalm 51: 10

Plain old day-to-day life can beat you up.  Our hearts gets dusty, our spirits waver.  Sometimes I feel like I need a heart-cleaning about 3 times a day!  How comforting to turn to God- head bowed, shoulders slumped, weary and dirty – and say “Hose me down God, I’m feeling grody.”

My words, of course – but He knows what I mean :)

Love as a Lifestyle

This is an article from Focus on the Family’s magazine Thriving Family.  It is a great resource and I enjoy reading it each month.  This particular article caught my attention because it is in the same community of spirit that we challenge through Time 4 Hope.  While it is a longer post than we normally put up, I hope you’ll read it at full length and allow it to challenge your heart.

Love as a Lifestyle

by: Michael Ridgeway

Francis Chan is the best-selling author of Crazy Love and Forgotten God and the founding pastor of a much-celebrated megachurch.  Yet he and his wife, Lisa, have chosen to live on an income far below what his success could easily provide.  He has given the profits from his books to charity and has stopped accepting a salary from the church, supporting his family on whatever income God provides through his speaking engagements.

The Chans and their four children live in a tract house in a modest neighborhood.  Despite their tight living quarters, Francis and Lisa have opened their doors to others in need.  As many as seven houseguests find shelter under their roof at any given time.

Their countercultural lifestyle isn’t some progressive social experiment in low-cost, communal living.  Rather, it’s a reaction to love.  God’s love for them.  And their love for other people. [Read more...]
