May 14th – Grocery Store Savings

Still trying to figure out the whole “coupon thing?”  Have you tried but just can’t seem to get the results you’d like?  Attend a Time 2 $ave Grocery Store Savings workshop and learn how to save BIG without sacrificing all your time!  Last month I saved over $500 at the grocery store, money my family got to keep in our pockets.   I’m not an extreme couponer who’s got time for that?  My goal is to save more than I spend, although there are times when I don’t save as much.  Remember whether you save $5, $50 or $100 you are still saving money!!   Now is a great time to start saving for Summer!!

If you are unable to attend a live workshop, my book is available for pre-order here.

Whether you’re throwing a little family New Years Eve party or a bigger gathering – you’ll always need to have some “Kid-friendly” finger foods on hand – here are my two favorite recipes for quick and easy party food that my kids love to eat (and me too!)

Sausage Balls:

Now let me start by saying that these are NOT the sausage balls that are super-greasy and brownish – but a more biscuity version that works well for parties or for an easy Christmas Morning finger-food breakfast!

Kasey’s Moms Breakfast Casserole

“Christmas” Sausage Strata  - My mom made this every year on Christmas morning for as long as I can remember.  Now, I do the same for my family.  Even though I don’t particularly like sausage, I love my mom’s Christmas Sausage Strata.  Last week, the kids and I prepared our Christmas Sausage Casserole for Christmas morning and stuck it in the freezer!  On Christmas Eve, I’ll take it out of the freezer and place in the fridge overnight to thaw out.  Then, on Christmas morning while we are opening gifts I’ll pop it in the oven.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve – and many of us finally sit down and call it quits with shopping, planning, decorating and the general craziness that surrounds such an essentially sacred, peaceful day.  Christmas Eve is a good time to transition (if you haven’t already) to focusing your family on the birth of the Christ child!

Thanks to Jamie for sharing tonight’s post!

Growing up – we were pretty close to plain old poor.   I don’t mean to say “aww, poor me” – but to get you to believe it when I say, my mom was S-E-R-I-O-U-S about not spending any money on people’s Christmas presents.  So we crafted every year – starting around July – to have enough presents to hand out come Christmas.  Mom picked a big project each year, like sewing fabric angels or those long heavy rolls that keep the draft out near the bottoms of doors and windows.  One year she went on a woven basket kick – and another it was aprons for the women in the family.  She even learned how to make doilies one year!  My dad joined in too – he woodburned pretty pictures for my grandparents, and painted scenery on old saws for my uncles.

25 Days of Christmas Fun: Reindeer Food

I love Christmas traditions, especially those full of Christmas wonder and magic.  My kids still believe in Santa, and all things related that are holly and jolly including the importance of feeding Santa’s rambunctious elves.  The past couple of years, we’ve made reindeer food that we sprinkle in the front yard on Christmas Eve before they head to bed.  I’ve included the recipe below in case you’d like to try it!

reindeerfood

Ingredients:
Raw Oatmeal (Cause reindeer LOOOVE them some oats….)
Glitter or sprinkles (To sparkle in the moonlight and guide them to your home)

Toss some out on the lawn on Christmas Eve, to give those poor over-worked reindeer something to munch on while Santa’s doing his chimney business.

Don’t miss out on any of our nightly posts in our 25 Days of Christmas Fun Series. Join us tomorrow night for more Christmas Fun !
