A “Tall Order”!

We got this email a little while back – and wanted to share:

“I just wanted to share a copy of my prized receipt from Publix. They had an awesome sale this week and it worked great for me.

I spent $54 and saved $258.  This is my 17y/o son standing beside it to show just long it was.

Have a great day!! Thanks for teaching me these techniques. I have loved it and we love out donation box that we have set aside for The Ronald McDonald House. We are making a visit to them this week with 2 boxes of goodies.  I cant wait.  I’m a single mom and love to help others, but never had the means to do it until now.  Its awesome and the kids have really gotten into with me.”

Sandy -what can I say?  You’re downright inspiring!  Thanks for sharing your fun picture and encouraging words, getting emails like this is one of our favorite things!

Do you have a picture or story to share?  We love to hear them!  You can email us or leave it on our Time2Save Facebook Page to encourage the whole community!

Time2Save & Time2Give Reader Testimonies!

As a community, we try to encourage each other not just in our struggle to save money – but also in our calling to give to others in need.  When you’ve come from a place of need into a place where you are able to give – you know what a joy it is!  So I have a few “Saving” and “Giving” testimonies to share with you today:

Terri French posted this on our Facebook Wall:

“Woohoo!!!! First time shopping while couponing. Spent $102 for $301 worth of product.”

Rose Thompson Smith got all this for $3.24!  Way to go Rose!

And now for a story we received from a sweet lady this week (Grab a Kleenex!):

“This last Sunday in our life group meeting (some call it Sunday School), a lady told us about an unchurched family, where the dad has lost his job, they have no car, and there are 4 children ranging from 8 to 16.  School is about to start and then I actually found out that the oldest son and his dad were sharing the same pair of shoes.  It was through the love of Jesus Christ and the Ministry that you have brought to some of our church ladies that enabled us on Thursday morning to take 2 boxes of slightly used clothes and 2 boxes of food and staples, and school supplies to help this family.  My husband said that they were so appreciative.  I would have never thought 3 weeks ago that we would be able to do this.  God has truly blessed us.  Thanks again for all you have taught me.   The bible says that before we start telling, to start by showing.  I believe that we truly got to show Gods love this week.”

Sincerely,
Kathy Smith

Flutter Fun ~ Grocery shopping with the kiddos

This video is hilarious. It was fun to watch Mandy and her kiddos during filming. If you are wondering what is on her face its smeared M & M handprints:) Thanks to Super Saver for allowing us to film in your store.

Coupon Butterflies: ROLL CALL!

fuhousewife

A friend of mine made a comment today that made me think about one of the funnest parts of couponing: Sharing With Others.  To paraphrase, she said, “What’s wonderful is the happy look you get to see on people’s faces, when you stop them & hand them a $1.50 coupon ….You just cannot replace that joy.”  And it’s true!

It’s so fun fluttering through the store leaving a paper-trail of coupons next to items – I’ve been the benefit of other’ extra coupons several times, so I like to pay it forward when I have extras!  There are all kinds of coupon butterflies:  Some tape their extras to the products, some leave stacks on the shelf for others, some send their expired coupons to the military families.

And then there are some  -  like me – who have  “Full-Price-Radar”.  It’s a switch that I can’t turn off.  I see someone putting something in their cart, I remember there’s a coupon for that in my binder, and Honey – that’s when I get scary.  I follow that poor person around Bi-Lo until I find that coupon and hand it over to them.  Sometimes they’re happy, but most of the time, they just seem a little afraid.

The same thing, but worse, happens in the checkout line.  Waiting in line is just an invitation to appraise the carts of your neighbors – am I right!?  Ninety-percent of the time I have a little stack ready for them by the time they pull up to the register.

Is this normal?  Are you appalled at the sight of your friends and total strangers paying full-price for things?   Let’s all ‘fess up to the crazy lengths we go to to help OTHER people save a buck!!

Oh My Goodness: We’re Almost at 5,000 Fans!!

Well bust my buttons!

Some people said it couldn’t be done – 5,000 Facebook Fans by this weekend??!!  Impossible!  But you, our wonderful, fabulous, awesome readers, have helped us to almost reach that goal!  (I think we can, I think we can, I think we can…..)

If you haven’t suggested us to your friends on Facebook yet – please (Pretty please with cherries on top!) do so and get in the running for a lots of newspaper inserts!  It’s easy, here’s how:

All you have to do is go to our Facebook Fan page and on the left side under our button, click “Suggest to Friends.” Then invite all your friends to join Time 2 $ave! Include a 1-line testimony with your invite (put that at the bottom of the invite box). As you click on people to invite, FB will keep count at the top of the box. Once you’ve sent out your invitations, go back to our Fanpage and leave a comment with your 1-line testimony & how many friends you invited. That’s it!

T2$ Community Shopping Trip!

Next Friday (May 28th) we will have our first Community Shopping Trip!  We are inviting you to come shopping with us at the Publix store in Ooltewah.  Won’t it be fun for everyone to get together, share extra tips we’ve learned, swap coupons, and just have a big ‘ole hen party in the store?!?!  We’ll be there from 7pm – 9pm and everyone who comes will get a FREE shopping bag.  Leave a comment on Facebook if you can make it!

Coupon Swaps: Let’s Organize!

Are you cripplingly thrifty? Are all your “normal” friends beginning to back slowly away from you and your endless coupon stories? Do you need a support group?  You’re in luck!!

As some of you know, I (Jamie) host a Cleveland, TN Coupon Swap about once a month at the local library conference room.  (It’s was delayed this month due to the kids Spring Break followed by Easter – but will resume soon!)  I’ve met some awesome ladies there, and we’ve had fun sharing stories, eating goodies, and most importantly – trading coupons!

Well, we don’t all live in Cleveland, and many have expressed a desire to get a coupon group started in their own neck of the woods.   Be it Chattanooga, Macon, Atlanta, Knoxville – or some tiny town in the middle of nowhere – you all deserve a coupon support group!  Well we’ve thought of a good way to help you do just that!

If you click on the Discussion Tab on our Facebook page, you will see the topic “Coupon Swaps: Let’s Organize!“  This is a place where you can pipe up and ask folks from your area to have a coupon swap with you.  Once you have a few people ready to meet, we’ll be happy to announce the dates and locations of planned swaps on the website – to help you get the word out.

For those of you new to Facebook, you’ll be going HERE and clicking on the tab that says “Discussions” – I took a picture of what that looks like for you below.

~How To Host A Coupon Swap~

If you’d like to start a group but aren’t sure how to go about the business of creating a “Coupon Swap” – never fear!  I’ll have a post put up in the next few days detailing how we and others like to do it.  Until then, just focus on rounding up some friends who want to join you!

Coupon Swap this Thursday Night!

86003005
Untie your apron and tell the hubby to pick up pizza – because Thursday night is Ladies Night!
Well, couponing ladies that is.  And, of course, couponing gentlemen are welcome too.   Point is – Thursday night is coupon night and we’ll be meeting for our monthly swap on February 18th at the Cleveland Public Library (go through the Carmichael House entrance once you reach the 3rd floor).
I’ve been asked to change the time from 7-9 to 6-8 PM for those who’d like to come soon after work.  I am nothing if not flexible, so 6-8 it is!  Come and join us, and if you have friends/coworkers who are interested in joining in, bring them along!  The more folks we have, the more coupons get passed around to the people who want/need them.
TIP: We usually put our coupons in envelopes and pass them around (Food, Non-Food) to give and take just what we need.  This seems to work out great – so just stuff some you don’t want in an envelope and bring it to share.
Also, if you have questions, frustrations, or any beginner qualms – bring them with you too.  Between me and the rest of the girls, I’m sure we can help you out!

Leave a comment if you plan on coming – and I’ll try to rustle up some snacks to bring along!
HINT: My snacks rhyme with JOREO….
