I was so excited when my friend, Amee from Real Advice Gal asked me to participate in her annual Giving Backpacks Campaign. This year’s event is generously sponsored by ALDI. Every year so many children start back to school without backpacks and much needed school supplies, which is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine my children not having the supplies they need for school.
As soon as ALDI’s weekly ad came out, with school supplies as the *special buys of the week, we made a quick trip to our local store. First, my daughter picked out her favorite backpack.
*Available while quantities last. Items may not be available in all stores. Prices and labels may vary by location.
Then, we grabbed school supplies. We know how fast students go through pencils and pens, so we stocked up enough to hopefully last a while.
I’m going to take my kids with me to donate the backpacks to The Caring Place, a local non profit agency that helps those in need. Makes my heart happy to see my children so excited to GIVE. In fact, they asked a lot of questions and were very curious as to why a kid would need school supplies. It was difficult for them to understand that some parents just can’t afford it. It opened the door for us to talk about why, and how important it is to treat all children the same no matter what they have. Although we talk about giving all the time, donating a backpack with school supplies seemed to really hit home to them.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – time for Aldi to put their patio chair cushions on sale!!
This week at Aldi there are some really good deals on patio furniture, cushions and accessories! Whenever these popular seasonal sales come along you can’t wait till the end of the week or they might be sold out. Go early!
You can get great deals at ALDI stores and save quite a bit of money. There are several ways that ALDI is able to do this.
Last year, I had the privilege of touring an ALDI grocery store with the ALDI PR team. As you can imagine, it was very interesting to walk through the store and hear how and why their prices are often as much as 50% lower than other grocery stores. Here are a few operational efficiencies that allow ALDI to keep costs to their consumers low while providing quality products: [Read more...]
Last week I told you that I was headed to Chicago for a trip to ALDI’s test kitchen for a holiday event with several other bloggers from across the country. Personally, I love to shop at ALDI. Since their low prices are so much cheaper than my local grocery store I know I am getting incredible deals on my groceries without worrying about coupons. Especially since we changed our diet and have cut out most processed foods, it was important to find a way to save money on our groceries as there aren’t generally coupons available for the kinds of foods we buy.
I’ve included a couple highlights from my trip below along with exciting news! [Read more...]

Since both my and my husband’s family live out off town, we will be traveling quite a bit this Christmas. The past two years, I found myself at the grocery store on Christmas Eve, I promised myself last year it would be my last. This year, I started stocking up much earlier on the items I would need to prepare our meals for my family. To maximize both my time and savings I made a trip to Aldi earlier this week. I’ve included a list of the items I purchased below, along with how I’ll be using most of them. Many of the items I purchased are considered part of their seasonal offering, meaning they are only available this time of the year. You can see a full list here. If you happen to be entertaining family and friends this Christmas season, Aldi put together a great list of Holiday Entertaining Tips here.
I’ve included two super simple recipes below in case you missed them in our 25 Days of Christmas Fun blog series. Both of the recipes are super simple to make!
Here’s a simple fun party mix I made up for the kids today while they were waiting on the regular Party Mix to bake. I dubbed it Snowman Crunch!
- Corn & Rice Cereal
- M & M’s
- Cheese Crackers (although when I told Jamie she said she’d never eat Marshmallows with Cheese Crackers so if you feel the same way omit).
Combine all ingredients together and enjoy. You could also add other Christmas candy you have on hand. This is an easy-peasy recipe, change it up as you desire. My kids loved it and were so excited to munch on marshmallows and M & M’s!
I’ve been making these Chocolate Pretzel Wreath’s for my family at Christmas for years. It’s one of the easiest recipes, and every time I take it to a Christmas party it’s always a favorite! Since it’s so simple my kids can almost make it by themselves as long as I supervise and handle any steps that require the oven or microwave.
Chocolate Pretzel Wreath’s
- Pretzels – I used round this year but have also used square, and regular pretzel mini’s
- Bag of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Kisses
- M & M’s
- 1/4 cup White Chocolate Chips, melted
Spread out pretzels in a single layer on a greased baking sheet. Place one unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss on top of the pretzel. Place in a 275 degree preheated oven for 3 minutes to soften the chocolate. Remove from oven, SLOWLY push down Hershey’s Kiss with a M & M. Allow to cool – if you are in a hurry to start snacking, place in fridge to cool. Measure 1/4 cup white chocolate chips and pour in zip lock bag (unsealed) in the microwave for 1 minute on 50% power. Turn over, continue to warm in 30 second intervals on 50% power until the white chocolate chips melt. They keep their shape,so you’ll need to feel with the back of a spoon. Cut a tiny hole in one of the bottom corners of the zip lock bag, push all of the melted white chocolate chips to the opening, then squeeze bag to drizzle on top of the Chocolate Pretzel Wreaths. Finish with red and green sprinkles. Enjoy! Warning – these are highly addictive!!

Today we’re tackling the best Instant Pot Accessories out there and what you need to know about them. If you’re wondering what an Instant Pot is – let me fill you in real quick…
The Instant Pot has really become a HOT item in kitchens everywhere these days - and it’s no secret why. These modern day pressure cookers make life easier for cooks in a time crunch and create tasty dishes that make lazy chefs look like they slaved for hours. (Seriously. Have you seen some of the best instant pot recipes?)
Bonus Points – they make it easier to eat HEALTHY. (Which good gracious – couldn’t we all use help with that? Here are some healthy instant pot recipes that might change your life).
But what are all those Instant Pot accessories for – what do they DO and how much do I need them in my life? Here’s a handy guide of the best Instant Pot accessories to buy!
First of all – do you have the best Instant Pot for you? Make sure you take a peek at our post How to Choose the Best Instant Pot!
Okay, on to the gadgets and gizmos…
The glass lid is an accessory you’ll want if you plan to slow cook foods in your instant pot. Also, you can take off the pressure lid, cover the inner pot with only the glass lid and put it on keep warm to have your meal sitting there ready to serve. (It’s easier to lift off and on when folks are serving themselves.)
This professional grade tempered glass lid is designed specifically for electric pressure cookers. Put your electric pressure cooker in keep-warm mode and cover the inner pot with this glass lid for food display and immediate serving. It can also be used in sauté/browning to avoid splashing cooking oil droplets soiling your countertop. This lid features a steam-release vent and stainless steel rim. It’s durable and dishwasher safe.
You might be thinking – why would I need that? But it really comes in handy! If you cook your main course in the instant pot and then pull it out and set it aside (covered with the glass lid - hey!) – you can then turn around and use your extra inner pot to make 8-minute rice as a side dish. Or 7-minute roasted potatoes. You get the idea!
Perfect and super useful for steaming veggies, keeping potatoes up out of the water,
Way less bulky and awkward than oven mitts when trying to lift the inner pot out and avoid steam and scalding metal.
Great for making cheesecakes, flans, omelets, or just heating small portions of different things all at once.
Makes 5 individual cups of yogurt rather than a big pot – and also can be used as a sterilization rack for bottles and jars.
While the Instant Pots make yogurt just fine – if you want that thicker greek yogurt texture, you might want to add this strainer to your list of must-haves.
This is great if you need to steam more bulky foods – like a large amount of greens – or to make stock.
Gaskets can wear out over time and eventually will absorb some of the odors from the foods you make often. It’s a good idea to have an extra when that happens!
