I saw this recipe for homemade English Muffin Bread a couple of months ago on Money Saving Mom and wanted to try it. I haven’t made homemade bread in years, since this recipe looked so easy I thought it would be the perfect to try. Especially since my kiddos wanted to help. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Combine warm water, yeast, salt and sugar.  Stir with wooden spoon or with a Kitchen Aid Mixer using dough hook until the yeast is dissolved and the ingredients are mixed well.

Carefully measure flour and add to mixture.  Just in case you are new to baking, here’s a tip don’t pack the flour in the measuring cup.  Stir with wooden spoon, or mix together with Kitchen Aid stand mixer.  Since I don’t have a splatter guard for my mixer, when I first turned it on I draped a kitchen towel around it so that flour wouldn’t get everywhere.  Can I just say, I’m glad I did.

As soon as the dough is mixed well it will begin pull away from the sides.

Punch the dough back down with a wooden spoon.  My kiddos really enjoyed this part!

Divide the dough into two greased loaf pans.  The dough is VERY sticky.  I used the wooden spoon to divide the dough so I wouldn’t have to touch it.

Let dough rise until it touches the top of the loaf pans.

Rising time will vary depending on room temperature.  The warmer the room, the faster it will rise. It took mine approx. 45 minutes each time.

Place loaf pans side by side in a preheated 350 oven for approx. 45 minutes.  My oven has a convection, speed bake option that I turned on BY ACCIDENT.  Thankfully, I had set the timer to check the bread at 30 minutes.  If I would have cooked it any longer it would have burned.  Lesson learned – if you have a convection oven bake at 350 for approx. 30 minutes.

Brush top with butter.  You are supposed to wait until it cools completely before cutting, however we couldn’t wait.  Nothing like warm bread out of the oven.
